Feb 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka Meteorological Department forecast low temperature in the hill country Nuwara Eliya district for today while a fair weather will prevail over most parts of the tropical island.

Ground frost is expected in areas in Nuwara Eliya district, especially during dawn hours according to the Department of Meteorology.

Ground frost in the hill resort of Sri Lanka creates beautiful scenery in the mornings that attracts tourists into the fields in the picturesque tourist city which is known as 'Little England' for its British style bungalows and buildings.

In January last year, Nuwara Eliya recorded a temperature as low as 2.7 degrees Celsius with ground frost formation.
