Feb 24, Colombo: A special envoy of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the executive managing advisor of Japan' s NHK International Mamoru Morohoshi, called on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (Feb. 23) evening.
The envoy carried a message from Prime Minister Abe expressing his good wishes for the Sri Lankan President.
President Rajapaksa and the Japanese envoy held discussions on several matters of mutual interest to both countries, the President's media unit said.
Meanwhile, Japan has handed over a report in support of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, state-run television said.
Permanent Representative of Japan to the UN Tsuneo Nishida has handed over the special report to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon indicating that Sri Lanka as an important country and Japan will support Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva.
Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary of Mass Media and Information Dr. Charitha Herath were also present at the meeting with the President.
