Feb 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka has received a loan of US$ 116.6 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a waste water management project to rehabilitate and reconstruct the sea outfall system in the capital city Colombo.
The project jointly funded by the Sri Lankan government and the lender under the Greater Colombo Wastewater Management Project will rehabilitate and reconstruct the damaged sections of the North-sea outfall at Mutwal and South-sea outfall Wellawaththe.
The project will include rehabilitation and reconstruction of the damaged sections of the sea outfall made up of 1500mm diameter concrete pipes up to a depth of about 10 m below sea level, removing accumulated grit along the outfall pipeline, diffusers and other places of the system, and cleaning.
The cabinet has approved the proposal made by Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils A.L.M. Athaulla and recommended by the Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (CAPC).
