Feb 19, Colombo: The election of office bearers of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), the powerful union of the lawyers, will take place tomorrow.

BASL election will be held at BASL centers island wide on Wednesday, February 20th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

President's Counsel Tirantha Walaliyadda, an expert on criminal law, Counsel Upul Jayasuriya, expert on human rights and Counsel R.R.S. Thangaraja contest for the post of President of BASL.

Incumbent President of BASL, parliamentarian and President's Counsel Wijedasa Rajapakshe, announced that he would not seek re-election at this time.

Counsel Sanjaya Gamage will elect to the position of secretary of the BASL without a contest since no other candidate has filed in nominations.

Around 11,000 members of the Bar Association island wide are qualified to vote at the election.
