Feb 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka Court of Appeal will tomorrow deliver the verdict of a case over displaying graphic images of cancer on the packets of cigarettes.
The petition was filed by the Ceylon Tobacco Company against the gazette notification of the Ministry of Health to depict graphic, pictorial anti-smoking messages covering 80 percent of the pack.
The case was heard today and the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena was also present in courts to observe the hearing.
All cigarette packs will have to carry one of eight pictures depicting illnesses caused by smoking, such as cancer, myocardial infarction, stroke etc., as have been finalized by the National Alcohol and Tobacco Authority (NATA) since March 01, 2013.
