Feb 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Health Ministry has received approval from the Cabinet to award the contract for medical gloves to the sole local manufacturer of gloves.

Accordingly, the Ministry will offer the Rs. 199.3 million contract to supply 44.5 million locally manufactured unsterile latex examination gloves on Long Term Agreement for year 2013-2014, to the only local manufacturer of gloves.

Dipped Products group is the only latex glove manufacturer with its own rubber plantations and manufacturing facilities in the country.

The proposal was made by Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena to award the tender as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC).

Sri Lanka spends around a billion rupees annually to import surgical gloves for the use in government hospitals.
