Feb 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of External Affairs says that a new ambassador will be appointed to Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry has named V. Krishnamurthy who was previously posted as the Deputy High Commissioner of India for Saudi Arabia.

The appointment is to be approved by the Parliamentary Select Committee on senior positions of state.

Sri Lanka recalled the ambassador of Saudi Arabia following the execution last month of the minor Sri Lankan housemaid Rizana Nafeek who was 17 when she was arrested in 2005 for the accidental death of an infant in Saudi Arabia.
