Feb 15, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government will study issuing halal certificates and its importance to businesses, Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said Thursday.
He said the study would also include the validity of the halal certificates and the mandate of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) to issue halal certificates.
Several groups including Muslim ministers in the government had raised a question on how the ACJU issued halal certificates and the legal mandate received by the ACJU.
All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama says it is the only approved Halal certifier in Sri Lanka.
