Feb 12, Colombo: The National Transport Commission of Sri Lanka says that there would not be an increase in bus fares any time soon.
The Commission has said that bus fares would not be increased although there has been an increase in fuel and other costs involved in public transportation since the last bus fare hike in February 2012.
The Commission had made the decision not to permit a bus fare hike following discussions with Private Transport Minister C.B. Ratnayake.
Meanwhile, private bus owners have threatened to launch an island wide strike if the authorities failed to grant a bus fare hike this month.
