Feb 05, Colombo: Employees attached to the municipal council of Sri Lanka's commercial capital, Colombo, today held a protest within the municipality premises against the proposed cadre system that is to be introduced to the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).

The employees have protested saying that the proposed cadre system would reduce the number of employees in the CMC.

The proposed system that was to be introduced on January 1st has been delayed due to opposition.

The CMC council headed by the Colombo Mayor is discussing how to resolve the issue.
