* Sri Lankan minister displeased with new portfolio, report

Feb 03, Colombo: A Sri Lankan minister has expressed dissatisfaction at the new portfolio allocated at the recent Cabinet re-shuffle.

Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) Secretary and Technology and Research Minister Champika Ranawaka has been quoted in the media as saying that his new ministry received the lowest budgetary allocations at the annual budget.

He has said that the Ministry has so far received only 0.04 percent of the allocations made in the budget.

He has explained that the budgetary allocations were important to conduct research and implement programs that are beneficial to the country.

Ranawaka, who was previously the Power and Energy Minister, has pointed out that he would raise his concerns with the President in the next few days.

However, he has assured that all on-going projects at the ministry would be continued under him.
