Feb 03, Colombo: An association of foreign employment agents in Sri Lanka says the government has suspended sending local housemaids to Saudi Arabia.
Head of the Association of Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies (ALFEA) W.M.P. Aponso has said that the Sri Lankan government has suspended sending maids to Saudi Arabia until the Saudi Arabian authorities provide a proper insurance scheme to the Sri Lankan employees.
The suspension of sending housemaids to the Kingdom has taken place following the execution of Sri Lankan housemaid Rizana Nafeek.
However, ALFEA plans to discuss the issue with Foreign Employment Minister Dilan Perera shortly.
