Sun, Feb 3, 2013, 10:24 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 03, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Navy last evening has rescued 138 foreign migrants drifting in a boat about 50 nautical miles away from Akkaraipattu in the eastern seaboard.

Navy Spokesperson Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that one person among the Bangladeshi and Burmese migrants was found dead in the overcrowded boat that was sinking.

The Navy had deployed four naval crafts to assist the foreign migrants after receiving information about the sinking boat.

The stressed migrants have been transferred to navy vessels and brought to Oluvil Fishery Harbor this morning. Some have been admitted to the hospital.

The Navy Spokesperson said further investigations are continuing.
