Feb 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has implemented a program to grant title deeds to the farmers settled under the Mahaweli Scheme.
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today at the Temple Trees symbolically handed over title deeds to 5,000 farmers settled in Mahaweli Zones. Also at the occasion deeds have been handed over to Chief Prelates of 30 temples in the zones.
Addressing the gathering, the President has appreciated the significant contribution the farmers make to the country's economy and noted that the government is honoring a pledge given to the farmer community by handing over deeds to the lands.
Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Maithripala Sirisena and Deputy Minister W.B. Ekanayake, Siripala Gamlath and M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena were present.
