Feb 01, Colombo: Public Health Inspectors of Sri Lanka Health Department will launch a 24-hour token strike today to demand increases in several allowances, the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors' Association said.
The PHIs demand the government to raise their transport allowance, office rent and uniform allowance.
They demand Rs. 15,000 for uniform allowance, Rs. 7,500 for fuel allowance and Rs. 2,500 maximum office allowance.
The union has decided to launch a continuous strike from tomorrow if their demands are not met today, a spokesman of the Public Health Inspectors' Association said.
In June last year, the Association walked away from their duties in protest of government's failure to grant their demands.
