Nov 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has decided to auction frequencies for the Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G telecommunication networks.
The auction will be held within this year and the 4G networks will be commercially launched in Sri Lanka next year, according to the Director General of Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Anusha Pelpita.
Sky Network Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) Group, introduced WiMAX 16e, popularly known as 4G technology, to the country in January 2011.
Dialog Axiata also announced in May 2011 that its pilot 4G network had been powered up in several key zones of Colombo city.
