Nov 10, Colombo: The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) today called on the President and the Speaker of parliament to reconsider the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake.

The BASL has decided to make the call following a decision arrived at the Association's executive committee meeting held today.

The Association has expressed concern over the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice.

Meanwhile, the BASL has already sought a meeting with Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa to discuss the impeachment motion.

The BASL during today's special committee meeting had approved eight proposals suggesting methods of action to be taken regarding the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice.

There had been an argument at the meeting when moves had been made to amend some of the resolutions that had been adopted at the last general assembly.

However, the BASL had passed today's resolutions with amendments.
