* Indian government offers scholarships to Sri Lankan students for higher education

Jan 11, Colombo: The Government of India has offered 184 scholarships for Sri Lankan candidates to follow undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. degrees at some of the leading universities in India.

Scholarships are being offered in areas including Engineering, Science, Business, Economics, Commerce, Agriculture, Indigenous Medicine, Humanities and Arts.

All scholarships cover full tuition fees for the entire duration of the course, in addition to a monthly sustenance allowance, an accommodation allowance and an annual grant for books and stationary.

All scholarship recipients will be provided full healthcare facilities, air fare to the nearest destination in India and an annual grant for educational tours to various parts of the country, in addition to several other auxiliary benefits.

Indian government has offered 100 scholarships for Sri Lankan Nationals under the "Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme" for undergraduate courses, 50 scholarships under the Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme for Masters Degrees, 25 slots under Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for undergraduate studies, 5 slots under Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme and 2 scholarships under SAARC Scholarship for Masters and PhD Degrees, a High Commission press release said.

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Higher Education has invited applications from eligible candidates. The last date for submission of application forms for undergraduate courses is on February 10th and for post graduate courses is February 20th. The application forms can be down loaded from the website of Ministry of Higher Education at www.mohe.gov.lk.
