Jan 11, Colombo: Three senior lawyers have handed in nominations to contest for the position of the President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).

President's Counsel Tirantha Walaliyadda, Counsels R.R.S. Thangaraja and Upul Jayasuriya have submitted nominations for the coveted position. Nominations closed yesterday, January 10.

Incumbent President of BASL, parliamentarian and President's Counsel Wijedasa Rajapakshe, announced he would not contest to the post.

Counsel Sanjaya Gamage will elect to the position of secretary of the BASL without a contest since no other candidate has filed in nominations.

The ballots for election of officers will be cast on the 20th of February. Around 11,000 members of the Bar Association are eligible to vote.
