Jan 11, Colombo: Several top positions of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) have become vacant from today.
Party's Deputy Leader, Assistant Leader and National Organizer positions have become vacated since their ended on January 10.
The general assembly of the UNP in December decided to elect persons for these positions at the party working committee meeting on January 10.
However, the scheduled working committee meeting has been postponed to January 21 due to the debate on the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranaike.
The vacated position of Deputy Leader was held by parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa, while the outgoing Assistant Leader was MP Joseph Michael Perera. The position of National Organizer was held by Daya Gamage.
