Thu, Jan 10, 2013, 07:59 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 10, Muttur: The villagers of Muttur in Eastern coast of Sri Lanka where the executed Sri Lankan housemaid Rizana Nafeek was born say that they will not participate in agitations against the killing but pray for the poor girl on Friday in the mosques.

The residents of Rizana's village said they have come to this decision since agitations in this regard will be an insult to their religion.

With the news that Rizana was executed in Saudi Arabia, thousands of people are flocking to the shack like house Rizana's family lives, reports from the Eastern Province said.

Sri Lanka Navy had to supply raisins rations to Rizana's family since they were in short of supply of tea and sugar to treat the line of visitors that came to their house to express solidarity.

Rizana's father is a woodcutter and the bullock cart used to transport firewood is their only valuable asset. He was in hospital when the family received the heart breaking message.

The family was affected by 2004 tsunami and the 17 year old girl was sent abroad in 2005 using a forged birth certificate and other documents due to poverty of the family.

She was sentenced to death on a charge of killing a baby she was looking after in Riyadh in 2005.

The Sri Lankan government said yesterday that it will do everything possible to alleviate her family's poverty, the purpose of the underage housemaid's employment in Saudi Arabia.
