Jan 10, Colombo: Sports Minister of Sri Lanka Mahindananda Aluthgamage says that the Speaker of parliament is yet to receive the Court of Appeal decision on the parliamentary select committee (PSC) that probed the impeachment charges against the Chief Justice.
He has said that neither the Speaker nor the Secretary General of parliament has been informed of the court decision to quash the PSC report on impeachment.
Aluthgamage has noted that the governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and main opposition United National Party (UNP) were on the same stance on the supremacy of parliament.
He has added that former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva has also spoken in support of parliament's sovereignty.
According to Aluthgamage, the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice is being used by some to create a crisis and destabilize the country.
