* Sri Lanka government plans to remove Chief Justice tomorrow - Marxist MP
Thu, Jan 10, 2013, 07:46 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 10, Colombo: Parliamentarian of Sri Lanka Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Anura Kumara Dissanayaka says the government has planned to remove the Chief Justice and appoint a new Chief Justice immediately after the impeachment motion was passed in the parliament.

Dissanayaka said the plans are afoot to issue the letter of removal to Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake in the night of January 11th, immediately after the debate and vote on impeachment. He said that a new Chief Justice would be appointed on Monday, January 14th.

The MP said that the JVP and its alliance Democratic National Alliance MPs would not participate in the debate on the impeachment since taking part of the debate is accepting its legitimacy.

The two-day debate on the impeachment motion is scheduled to begin this afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
