Jan 07, Dambulla: The opposition leader of the Dambulla local government council says the authorities have not paid attention to maintain the world heritage archaeological site Sigiriya rock fortress properly.
The local government member Saman Moremada said the fountains in the rock fortress did not operate properly during the past rainy season.
The Fountain Garden, the well preserved 1600- year- old water system still operates during rainy seasons but this time the water just seeped out, the local government member said.
He said that when inquired, the Central Cultural Fund which is managing the site had said that the tubes might be blocked and needed to be cleaned.
Moremada said that the Chairman of Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha has promised to inform the matter to the Minister of Cultural Affairs.
