Jan 07, Colombo: A coalition of five trade unions of the supplementary medical professionals of Health Department has decided to strike work on January 09 setting forth six demands.

The secretary of the coalition Saman Jayasekara said that the 5,000 employees of the hospitals island wide would participate in the strike.

Jayasekara said the strike may paralyze the hospitals unless the agreement reached at the discussion between the secretary of the Ministry and the trade union representatives is implemented.

The trade union official stated that the decision to strike work was reached after all the actions that caused minimum disruption to the service were not heeded.
