Jan 05, Colombo: The Government of Japan has decided to donate emergency assistance worth 23 million Japanese Yen (approximately Rs. 32 million) to the Government of Sri Lanka for immediate distribution among people affected by the recent floods and landslides.
The emergency assistance, which includes tents, plastic sheets and sleeping pads, is being provided in line with the needs of those affected and as requested by the Sri Lankan government.
The relief items will be distributed through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
"The People and the Government of Japan sincerely hope that this aid would contribute to improving the humanitarian situation in the affected areas, and that this disaster will be under control as early as possible," the Japanese Embassy in Colombo said in a statement.
