* Sri Lanka Media Ministry calls on websites to register and pay fees

Jan 04, Colombo: The Media Ministry of Sri Lanka has called on websites operating in the country to register according to the new Ministry regulations.

The Ministry has reportedly sent letters to the websites asking them to register and pay the relevant registration fees.

The Ministry has asked the websites to register and pay the fess by January 15th.

Under the new regulations, the registration fee is Rs. 25,000 and the annual fee is Rs. 10,000.

Many websites operating in the country have stated that the Media Ministry letters were received Thursday (03).

The government decided to register websites operating in the country and to charge a fee to regularize and monitor the websites while preventing the operation of scurrilous websites.
