Jan 03, Colombo: Recognizing that Sri Lankan women and children are also vulnerable to human trafficking, the Ministry of Child Development and Women's Affairs has taken measures to establish the first government shelter for women and child victims of human trafficking.
The proposed establishment is aimed at providing safe shelter, counseling, legal, medical physical and psychological assistance, etc. to the victims of human trafficking, especially women and children.
The cabinet has approved the measure to establish the shelter proposed by the Minister of Child Development and Women's Affairs Tissa Karalliyadde in consultation with the Ministry of Justice.
The shelter is also expected to fulfill international obligations as well, with regard to the protection of victims of Human Trafficking.
