Jan 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has pledged to eradicate the underworld and illegal narcotics from the capital city of Colombo and had sought the assistance of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC).
Addressing a function at the Colombo Municipal Council Rajapaksa has said the underworld and illegal narcotics are threat to the developing city and the public and he had received many requests from the public to eradicate the menace during his visits to many parts of the city.
He has said that several programs have been initiated to crackdown on the underworld and the narcotics network operating in the city and its suburbs and assured to continue the efforts to rid the menace.
Speaking further, the Defence Secretary has said that the Colombo City was being developed to upgrade the living standards of the low income group.
Addressing the function, Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil has said that he was dedicated to develop the Colombo City, even though it was a difficult task.
