* Sri Lanka Police remove personnel deployed in and around the Jaffna University premises
Wed, Jan 2, 2013, 10:51 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 02, Jaffna: The Sri Lanka Police Department has removed the police personnel who were deployed in and around the Jaffna University premises following the clash between the university students and security forces on November 27th last year.

Jaffna Assistant Superintendent of Police M.C.M. Jiffry has said the decision to remove the police personnel had been implemented since Monday (December 31).

The Police Department has also issued an official statement on the matter.

Tamil political parties have been critical of the heavy security presence in and around the Jaffna University following the November clash that took place when the university students tried to commemorate the dead Tamil Tiger Terrorists on the banned organization's Mahaveer Day (Heroes' Day).
