Jan 01, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government will take measures to develop 103 river basins in 2013, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
The Minister says that a project to develop river basins in the island is implemented after 60 years.
The project aims to guarantee the safety of the river basins especially during heavy rains.
River basins are very important for the underground water resources and the project aims at increasing the speed and percentage of absorption of rain water into the ground.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that the Treasury has been requested to allocate Rs. 100 million in 2013 the project.
