Dec 25, Colombo: Teacher Services Union of Sri Lanka has written to the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena protesting moves to transfer teachers in an unsystematic way from national schools.
The secretary of the Sri Lanka Teacher Services Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said the Minister had announced that the teachers who served a long time in the same school would be transferred at the beginning of the year but the teacher transfer boards of the national schools had not yet established properly.
He demands the Minister to establish teacher transfer boards and implement the national teacher transfer policy without putting teachers under pressure through authoritarian moves.
Jayasinghe further pointed out that according to the national teacher transfer policy the transfers could not be made as the politicians and officials wish.
According to the Minister of Education 3,100 teachers who have served in the same national school for over 20 years and 9,300 teachers who have served in a national school for over 10 years will be transferred to other schools from the beginning of next year.
