Dec 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka parliamentary sources say that a study is being carried out regarding the poor attendance of the ruling alliance parliamentarians and Ministers at the budget debate.
The budget debate was held for 24 days but the attendance of 60 some cabinet level Ministers was poor, parliamentary sources say.
According to the study carried out regarding the attendance at the budget debate, eight ministers have attended debates for 24 days, four ministers for 23 days, one minister for nine days and one minister for eight days.
Apparently one minister had not even attended the debate of his own ministry, sources say.
A large number of MPs of the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance have also failed to attend the budget debates.
The poor attendance was reported despite a directive of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the ruling party members of the parliament to attend the budget debate.
