Dec 14, Colombo: The Election Secretariat of Sri Lanka has decided not to extend the registration of 15 political parties that have not submitted the annual account reports for 2011 yet.
Several political parties represented in parliament are also among the parties that are at risk of losing registration, an Election Secretariat spokesman said.
Under the Political Party Registration Act it is mandatory for political parties to submit their annual reports to the Election Secretariat.
The delinquent parties however, have been given time until the end of this month to submit their reports. The parties failing to do so will not be included in the list of recognized political parties for 2013, the spokesman said.
