Dec 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has suspended the party membership of six local government members who had criticized the party convention which was held on December 1st.
The six UNP local government members have held a press conference criticizing the party convention and the party leadership.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has said the six members who have been suspended are Samansiri Peris of Panduwasnuwara Pradeshiya Sabha, Janaka Tilakasiri of Pannala Pradeshiya Sabha, Tushatra Sampath Ranasinghe of Bingiriya Pradeshiya Sabha, Hemachnadra Kularatne of Udubaddawa Pradeshiya Sabha, S. Prasanna Thushara and Amila Udaya Ruwan of Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha.
Following the Working Committee's decision to suspend these members, the party headquarters - Sirikotha has now been made out of bounds for them.
