* Australia sends another 46 Sri Lankan boat arrivals home
Fri, Dec 7, 2012, 12:45 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 06, Colombo: Australia Thursday deported another 46 Sri Lankan asylum seekers to Colombo bringing the total returned involuntarily to 640 since August 13.

All the 46 adult men were recent arrivals from a number of different boats.

The Sri Lankans were advised of their status and that they were subject to removal from Australia. They raised no issues that engaged Australia's international obligations, the office of the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship said in a statement.

Without a valid visa they had no legal right to remain in Australia and were removed at the earliest opportunity, it said.

Australian government says it will continue to return people where they do not engage Australia's international obligations.

Under Australia's new policy enacted after August 13, people arriving in boats will be sent to offshore detention centers in Nauru and Manus Island for processing where they may have to wait years before receiving a valid visa.

Since August 13, almost 750 Sri Lankans have returned home, both voluntarily and involuntarily.

People returned involuntarily do not have access to reintegration assistance.
