Sept 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Defense and Urban Development has launched a programme to establish model police areas.
The Secretary of the Ministry Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says that the programme will be commenced from Kohuwala police area.
A programme is underway in the police area for a month now and it has helped to minimize the crime rate in the area, a senior state official said.
Under the programme, police have enhanced civil defense committees, mobile surveillance, public relations, registration of essential individuals and other tasks.
The Defense Secretary said that the pilot programme had shown a positive outcome and it will be implemented in other areas as well.
