Sept 25, Colombo: Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijerathna today released the student union leader arrested last week.
The courts released the Convener of Inter University Students' Federation Sanjeeva Bandara who was arrested by police on September 19, on two personal bails of Rs 100,000 each.
He was arrested on suspicion for damaging a police vehicle and assaulting several persons during a student protest in Colombo Fort.
The incident had taken place on August 29 when a student agitation was held outside Colombo Fort Railway Station.
The Magistrate has also ordered Bandara to report to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) every week and warned him not to get involved in any mob activities.
However, court rejected a police appeal to restrict the students' agitations only to Hyde Park area.
