* Sri Lanka police directed to charge Army Major who said Minister's son assaulted him
Tue, Sep 25, 2012, 01:25 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 24, Colombo: Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijerathna today directed police to inform court if police would charge the Army Major who made a false statement that he was assaulted by Minister Mervin Silva's son Malaka Silva and former Minister Mano Wijerathna's son Rehan Wijerathna.

Police informed the court that Major Chandana Pradeep was not on duty at the place he was attacked. Police say probes are underway to find if he was providing security to a casino owner.

Major Pradeep identified one person as an assailant at the identification parade held today.

The judge today released the other five suspects who were in custody.

Army Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasekara told media that the investigation regarding Major Chandana Pradeep has been finished now and the report has been handed over to the Army Commander.
