Sept 24, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has refused to accept the resignation of the ruling party national list parliamentarian Malini Fonseka, President's media director Bandula Jayasekara said.
MP Malini Fonseka earlier today has submitted her resignation and the Parliamentary Secretary Dhammika Kithulgoda has confirmed that he had received her resignation letter.
Following President's refusal the veteran actress, who has met President this afternoon, has decided to withdraw her resignation.
MP Fonseka's resignation was to pave way to the former Chief Minister of the North Central Provincial Council Berty Premalal Dissanayaka to enter into the parliament, according to political sources.
However, Dissanayaka took oaths as a councilor of the North Central Provincial Council today after the new Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith and the ministers of the province swore in.
