Sept 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka said the President Mahinda Rajapaksa would declare open the high tension electricity transmission line that connects the Northern Province to the national grid on September 25.
The President will declare open the newly built Kilinochchi grid station during his visit to Kilinochchi, Ranawaka said.
A transmission line is being built from Vavuniya to Chunnakam via Kilinochchi with the financial assistance from the government of Japan.
Once completed, the line will connect the Northern Province to the national grid.
Northern Province is connected to the national grid after 25 years. The transmission lines were destroyed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during the three-decade long war.
