Sept 20, Colombo: Sujeewa Senasinghe, a parliamentarian of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against the investment of Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees' Trust Fund (ETF) monies in the stock market.
Senasinghe has stated in his complaint that questionable investments of EPF and ETF monies had resulted in the Funds incurring losses amounting to Rs.12 billion.
He has accused Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral, Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera and several others as those responsible for losses incurred by the Funds.
After handing the complaint, Senasinghe told the media that he hoped the Bribery Commission would take steps to investigate these questionable investments and punish those responsible.
He noted that a legal document was submitted to the Bribery Commission to ascertain how and who had advised and influenced these investments.
