* Sri Lanka increase levies on imported potatoes and canned fish

Sept 18, Colombo: The levies on imported canned fish and potatoes have been increased with effect from today, the Internal Trade Ministry announced.

Accordingly, taxes on a kilogram of imported potatoes have been increased to 50 rupees from 30 rupees while the taxes on a kilogram of imported canned fish have been increased to 75 rupees from 50 rupees.

Director General of the Department of Trade Tariff and Policies Ajantha Dias has said that the measure is aimed to create a better market for the local potato farmers and local canned fish manufacturers.
