Sept 18, Colombo: Prisoners in Sri Lanka's Batticaloa Prison have protested against the quality of the food served to them.
Six inmates from the Prison have climbed on to a roof protesting against the food served to them and have demanded that the quality of the food be improved.
Among the protesting inmates were five Tamils and one Sinhalese. They commenced a fast yesterday demanding the immediate attention of the prison authorities to their grievance.
However, prison authorities have now said the issue has been resolved.
Prisons Commissioner P.W. Kodippili has admitted to the media that there was an issue regarding the quality of food served to inmates.
Nevertheless, he has noted that the issue has been addressed and the prisoners have stopped their fast.
