Sept 18, Colombo: Postal sector employees in Sri Lanka have threatened an island wide strike if the authorities fail to streamline the recruitment of graduates.
The Ceylon Postal Union says postal workers would commence an island wide strike from September 25th if their demands are not met.
President of the Ceylon Postal Union (CPU) Jayantha Wijesinghe has said the union had continuously called on the government to streamline the recruitment process of graduates to fill the vacancies at the Postal Department.
The Postal Services Ministry has reportedly decided to recruit 764 graduates to the postal service, which currently has over 1,000 vacancies.
However, the Union has alleged the recruitment process is highly politicized. The unionists claim there should be a proper mechanism in place to choose suitable persons to the postal service.
