Sept 16, Colombo: A new organization of teachers of Sri Lankan universities came out today to protest the strike launched by the Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA).
The organization called the Forum of the Patriotic University Teachers held a press conference today in Colombo to protest FUTA's demands.
Convener of the Forum of the Patriotic University Teachers Felix Jayathilake said that the FUTA demand for allocating 6 percent of the state expenditure for education was impractical.
He said that the university teachers were making this demand without knowing the facts.
He pointed out that the 6 percent demand cannot be granted since the government has to bear other expenses as well.
