* Sri Lanka ruling party gets majority of North Central Province

Sept 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka ruling party United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is on the way to victory in the North Central Provincial Council with a clear majority for another four-year term.

Results have been released for all the electorates in the Anuradhapura District of the Province except Horowpathana. The ruling party has claimed a clear victory in Medawchchiya (66.68%) Anuradhapura East (58.92%), Anuradhapura West (59.44%), Kekirawa (64.66%), Mihinthale (65.92%) and Kalawewa (61.22%).

In the Polonnaruwa district all electorates, ruling party has received a clear majority in Minneriya (61.47%), Medirigiriya (56.04%), Polonnaruwa (57.54%) and also receiving 59.1% of postal votes.

From the postal votes released in the Eastern Province, Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi won the Batticaloa District with 3,238 votes (59.79 %). The UPFA managed 1,428 votes (26.37 %) with the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress taking 443 (8.18 %).

In Ampara District, UPFA won the postal vote with 5,342 votes (45.54 %). United National Party received 3,458 votes (29.48 %) and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress received 1,721 votes (14.67 %).
