Oct 31, Colombo: A former legislator of Sri Lanka Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Ms. Anjan Umma today joined the main opposition United National Party (UNP).

Umma officially took the membership of the UNP today at Sirikotha, the UNP headquarters.

UNP sources said that she has been given an organizer position in the party.

Ms. Umma, a former school teacher, was elected from the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) to the parliament from Gampaha district in 2004.

In 2008, she broke away from JVP and joined the National Freedom Front led by Wimal Weerawansa.
