* University teachers of Sri Lanka to hold discussions with Higher Education Ministry
Tue, Oct 30, 2012, 11:58 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 30, Colombo: The Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne will have a discussion with the representatives of the Federation of University Teachers' Association (FUTA) on November 01, FUTA sources say.

Secretary of the FUTA Dr. Terrence Madujith says that the government has not fulfilled the promises granted to settle the strike of the university teachers. He added that the matter would be raised at the discussions.

Madujith said that the two parties would discuss about the committee to be appointed to upgrade the university teachers' service as a special grade service and also about the Presidential committee to be appointed to look into the education. He pointed out that the preparation of time frames for fulfilling the promises was a challenge.

The President of FUTA Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri has said that the government had not taken any initiative to honor the pledges given to them at the discussions held earlier to end their four-month long strike.
