Oct 27, Colombo: A senior Sri Lankan minister says that the service of the country's public sector has declined.
Senior Minister for International Monetary Cooperation Dr. Sarath Amunugama has said the service of the public sector has shown a decline despite the increase in employment to the sector.
Dr. Amunugama has explained that the quality of the public service has not increased in line with the increase in the number of public servants. "When there was a small number of public servants, there was some amount of quality in the service," he has said.
He has noted that almost 75 percent of the public sector employees were engaged in non-administrative work.
According to Dr. Amunugama, unnecessary rules have also minimized the quality of the country's public service.
